What is Metadata
"[From Greek] meta; "with, after", of a higher or
second-order kind. data; Known facts or things used as a basis for
inference or reckoning"
The term "Metadata" was created by Jack Myers in the 1960's
to describe data about data. This information could be
anything from an authors name, date of publication, subject,
terms used, key terms used (Keywords)
etc... This terminology for information or "Metadata",
is not confined to the web, although with how wide spread
and accessible web design, development and optimization has
become, there is no surprise that this term is now
associated with the internet. Importance of Metadata
With some search engines they use metadata to index a website, and this
indexed information is used to provide information to the end user who is
searching for associated information / services. Other search engines such
as
Google only take metadata
as part of the overall information to categorise the relevance of a website, and
as such, by it's self is not that important, but when metadata is used alongside
web content, web links, RSS and such, it adds to the validity of the "theme" of
the website.
Meta data
If you want a fully optimized website then metadata is a must, by it's
self do not expect results. For more information please visit one of
